Autonomous X Prize Visioneering Meeting

On May 3, 20111, Paul Perrone of Perrone Robotics participated in a meeting amongst industry leaders to define the next giant leap in autonomous vehicle technology vis-a-vis the X Prize Foundation's Autonomous Vehicle Visioneering meeting in Detroit, Michigan.

The X PRIZE Foundation is an educational organization whose mission is to bring about radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity, thereby inspiring the formation of new industries and the revitalization of markets that are currently stuck due to existing failures or a commonly held belief that a solution is not possible. The foundation addresses the world’s Grand Challenges by creating and managing large-scale, high-profile, incentivized prize competitions that stimulate investment in research and development worth far more than the prize itself. It motivates and inspires brilliant innovators from all disciplines to leverage their intellectual and financial capital.

In their next big endeavor to advance the state of the art, the X Prize Foundation gathered a team of 26 professionals to help define the next big challenge for autonomous self-driving vehicles. The meeting convened to discuss metrics for evaluation of autonomous vehicle performance, competition formats, and general considerations for advancing the state of the art toward making autonomous vehicles a reality in our lifetime.
