Perrone Robotics' patent pending MAX platform and toolkit provides a suite of software services that may be commonly used in any robotics or automation application. The MAX toolkit provides a generic approach for defining how any sort of sensors, actuators, and robot conduct may be configured, assembled, deployed, and managed. Total plug-and-play and configuration of built-in, custom, or third-party components is enabled.

A suite of generic and completely configurable services are built-into MAX enabling rapid deployment of a robotics application by simple configuration specifications. A suite of built-in drivers and services for operations common to many robotics applications are also provided. The ability to transparently communicate with other MAX-based services and robots in a distributed fashion or with external devices is also built in.

Various MAX profiles are available for any computational need. A Java technology based MAX standard profile enables operation in a wide range of standard and embedded environments (e.g. Linux, Windows). A Java technology based MAX micro profile enables operation in a wide variety of more memory constrained embedded or micro-controller environments. Common code-bases between both environments means that your robotics and automation applications are guaranteed the widest possible array of underlying hardware and operating environment support.

Such profiles enable rapid development for bots of all shapes and sizes ("rat, cat, or elephant sized"). MAX has been used in applications as large and complex as an autonomous UGV dune buggy and as small and simple as a palm-sized toy bot.
